Patti Smith is one of the early pioneers of New York’s dynamic punk scene, and was instrumental in the punk rock movement of the 1970s, yet she would not identify her as a punk. She considers herself a poet, and an author. What’s certain is that her trinity – punk, poet, author – are interlinked and her uncompromising songwriting has inspired generations of musicians and writers, and women in general. She is a living proof that we can all be multi-talented, we can inspire, we can be an icon and humble at the same time. Rock on.
